I do developmental and copy editing for nonfiction work. I can help with books, articles, proposals, web content and professional communications. If you need a quote for editing work, please email me a description of the project (and a sample of the material, if possible) and tell me your time frame.
Publishing Manager, The Tico Times
2015 – 2016
At The Tico Times, I developed and edited books related to Costa Rican culture, including Love in Translation and The Green Season. I also served as a backup news editor for the Times, editing incoming news stories from reporters and monitoring wire services for stories relevant to our audience.
Editor & Project Manager, Zona Tropical Press
2012 – 2015
At Zona Tropical, I developed natural history titles from beginning to end, often in collaboration with partners Cornell University Press and Princeton University Press. As both developmental and copy editor, I helped plan the features of each book and did extensive editing and fact checking. In my role as project manager, I managed international teams of authors, illustrators, science editors, cartographers, designers and printers to bring projects to completion on time and within budget. My work spanned field guides, photography books and children’s books and includes: Birds of Botswana; The Birds of Costa Rica, 2nd edition; Peterson Field Guide to Birds of Northern Central America.
